The Journey

I have the huge honour of being friends with Dung Nguyen, a home-schooling mum and educator from Vietnam. Dung Nguyen is a regular contributor to the Across The Sky Global Project, an organization which aims “to extend the walls of the classroom by connecting students in different parts of the world to each other. Music, Art, and Storytelling are seamlessly connected to create a sense of community and shared goals.” (Quote taken from Across the Sky Global Project’s Facebook Page).

Dung writes powerfully about the importance of following the path that is right for you and for your students. Sometimes this requires courage. But what a wonderful thing courage is in a mother and a teacher. To all the educators, students and homeschooling mums out there, may you be inspired by this beautiful piece of writing. It lifted my spirits, and I believe it will lift yours as well. Love, Ruthie xx

The Journey

By Dung Nguyen.

At times, people may criticize you, not because they understand your journey, but because they don’t truly know you. They might try to put you down, judge your choices, or even bully you. But here’s the truth: There is more than one way to pursue your dreams, and it all depends on your purpose in life.

I’ve chosen a path that’s different from the traditional one. I’ve never stopped learning or improving my knowledge. I’ve earned global certifications and have connected with professional educators from around the world. Through these experiences, I’ve learned that growth comes from stepping out of your comfort zone and daring to challenge yourself.

Some people may try to destroy your confidence, but they can’t destroy your ability or the recognition you’ve earned from respected educators across the globe. Your passion, dedication, and hard work speak louder than any criticism. I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with skilled professionals, speak at international conferences, and inspire students and teachers worldwide. My journey wasn’t confined to a single path; it’s been shaped by a commitment to continuous learning and global engagement.

For anyone facing criticism or doubt, remember this: You don’t need to prove yourself to anyone. Your journey is your own. There is no “right” way to be an educator or a lifelong learner. Keep learning, keep teaching, and trust in your purpose. The value of what you bring to education cannot be defined by others’ opinions—it’s defined by your impact, your growth, and your dedication.

So, let’s continue to challenge the norms and break barriers. Education is a global adventure, and the world needs educators who are brave enough to follow their own path. Believe in yourself, keep learning, and keep teaching—because nothing is impossible when you stay true to your purpose.
